wood

we are competing with each other to see who knows the most dead people.

a few of us know someone who has died of an overdose. everyone knows someone who has committed suicide. nobody knows anybody who has died from aids. everybody knows somebody who has died in a car accident.

kate wins. all in all, she knows ten dead people and her father is very sick. she thinks she is a bit of an authority on death. a good friend turned blue in her bathroom, she lost a boyfriend in a bus crash.

kate says that the world would be a much safer place if the roads were made of wood. you could send council workers out in the morning to polish them. you wouldn’t have to drive your car to work you could just wear socks.
